Panthers beat deadline to make it a cupful

LAST POST PANTHERS have become the 32nd and final side to enter the inaugural Fletcher Sports Guernsey FA Cup. Their entry was received just before the deadline.

The draw for the first round of the biggest cup competition in the local game will be made live on Channel Television’s Report Sport programme on Monday 16 August 2004.

‘That is an indication of the extent to which the football community has been captivated by the Guernsey FA Cup,’ said GFA secretary matt Fallaize.

‘We are in the process of building what could become an unshakeable local football tradition.’

The format of the draw will, said Fallaize, not that dissimilar from the FA Cup draw with which everyone is so familiar.

It is envisaged that it will be made by GFA president Dave Dorey and probably a representative of the cup sponsors.

Meanwhile, the GFA has decided against seeding Priaulx League clubs.

The draw will be entirely free and no teams will be kept apart.

The final is set for Wednesday 13 April 2005 when the winners not only receive the newly-branded trophy but a cheque for £2,000.

The losing finalists are set to receive £1,000, there will £400 to each of the losing semi-finalists; £200 to the losing quarter-finalists and £50 to the eight teams losing in the last 16.
