CLUBHOUSE OPTIMISTS are the only unbeaten side in the KPMG Channel Islands Championship.
Andy Biggins’ men made it two wins from two games with their comfortable 128-run triumph over St Ouen at Grainville to head Group B and put themselves in a strong position before their last group match against C&W Rovers.
‘St Ouen started slowly - they were 50-0 off 17 - but after the openers went the middle order collapsed, ‘ said Optimists skipper Andy Biggins.
‘We were 59 for 2, then 173 for 2, and the eighth wicket put on another 48 unbroken. ‘
It was a good weekend for Guernsey sides with three Sarnian victories from the four matches and virtually every club in the competition still harbours realistic hopes of progressing to the semi-finals with the final round of group matches in a fortnight ’s time.
At the KGV, Total Cobo inflicted a six-wicket defeat on Jersey champions Sporting Club Francais thanks to a mightily impressive all-round team performance.
Steve Carlyon produced a superb 90 for the visitors but the home side stuck to their task well and bowled the opposition out for 200 before Cobo ’s top five all made useful contributions in reaching the target.
‘It was a very good win, although we do have a decent record against Sporting Club in recent years, ‘ said Cobo captain Peter Vidamour.
‘What was really pleasing was that it was a team effort. The bowlers all did their bit, the fielding was good and none of the batsmen failed, which is very rare. ‘
It was a similar story at the College Field where PKF Wanderers recovered from their horror show against SCF three weeks ago with a convincing nine-wicket win against Romerils.
But at the FB Fields C&W Rovers came undone against Old Victorians.
The Guernsey champions were missing several first team regulars including strike bowler Nick Derbyshire and they fell short in their chase of 235.
