Adam and Chris lay down Law at Track

RAIN played a big part in the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club’s latest meeting at the Track, with racing starting in heavy showers but ending with dry finals. All four cadets had a turn at leading at some stage, but equally all four had their turn to spin or go off the track.

Regardless, it was business as usual for Adam Law, who clocked up three more wins.

Sheldon Davey did break his dominance by winning heat two and Daniel Ridley’s three second places were his best meeting so far.

Kasey Watson, racing his new kart for the first time, did get himself into a position to win heat one, but a spin meant he will have to wait a little longer for that first victory.

Chris Law and Darren Konken, the two junior championship contenders, finished with two wins apiece but it was Law who had the bigger smile, as he comfortably won heat one from Daniel James and Kieran Jones.

He was leading heat two but a spin let Konken through to win from James Williams, with Law recovering to third. Heat three went to Konken from Williams and Stuart Moorat.

In the final and with the track virtually dry, it was Konken who took the first corner in the lead from Law. The former eased away but on lap six under no real pressure he managed to find one of the few damp patches left on the track; in seconds he found himself facing backwards in the straw bales.

Law picked up the win - which could be a big turning point in the championship - from Williams, his third second place of the day, James, Moorat, Konken and Jones.

Colin Laine had the best meeting of the senior championship contenders, winning heat one from Paul Buckingham and Alex Rosamond. The last-named led all the way in heat two to win from Laine, with championship leader Matt Corson third.

The changing conditions caught out quite a few drivers in heat three, though they did not affect Keith Lanyon who drove a good, smooth race to register his first win from Rosamond with Martyn Lowe third.

Laine eased away to a comfortable final win from Rosamond, who was shadowed all the way by Buckingham.

Lowe had a fairly lonely race in the fourth event, until with just a couple of laps to go, he was caught by Corson who tried all he could to claim the extra points fourth place would bring. Lowe would not be denied and Corson had to settle for fifth, Lanyon rounding off the top six.
