RACES five and six of the 2004 series pursuit racing took place in Ladies’ Bay in ideal conditions of westerly force 3-4 on a falling tide with medium swell. There was a good turnout of 13 sailors - some on one-design boards and about half on formula boards, which came into their own in these conditions.
The course consisted of three laps with the windward mark at Rousse and a broad reach down to a buoy at Tiger Bay and the finishing point in Ladies’ Bay.
The first race started well, with Stuart Briggs (0) on a formula board leading from start to finish. However, when the fleet reached the buoy at Tiger Bay, which was a crab pot bobber, the fisherman decided to lift it, thus taking out the marker. There was then a need to sail for the next closest point.
Second place was taken by Tim Laine (8), with Simon Gregory (7) in third place. John de la Mare (6), on a one-design, came in fourth.
The second race was again dominated by the formula boards and the result was the same.
