THE first winter jumping at La Carriere Stables was inappropriately named as the day was scorching hot and produced a very good turnout for the new season. Georgina Prow on Robin, jumping competitively for the first time, produced double clears to take first place in the leading rein section, beating Sophia Forino on Angel and Lauren Hodgkinson on Casper into second place in classes one and two respectively.
Tia Gardener, riding Popsy, produced a very smooth fast round in class three, pipping Luke Walters, on Wobble, to win the class in a very close finish.
However, Walters rode an effortless round to win the Zip Up Minimus Qualifier class, giving him top points towards the championships. Nia Cuddihee, on Angel and Hannah Young on James, both gained points towards the finals.
Vicky Guillot riding Miss Daae won the Pete Ozanne Electrics qualifier in a time of 27.7sec. with Louise Fitzhenry on Robin coming a close second. Both qualify for the championships.
Maddie Wilson on Mockbeggar Samuel provided the fastest time in the jump-off of the 2ft 3in. jumping class, beating her mother Roz on Amber into third place.
Lydia Collas, riding her new pony Sheer Panache, took the honours in the junior accumulator, scoring the highest points in the fastest time, closely followed by Lara Cuddihee on Pie and Tracey Smith riding Seymour Savannah.
As the temperature rose, the competition hotted up with Vicky Guillot riding Guinness and Maddie Wilson on Mockbeggar Samuel, both producing very fast rounds with less than half-a-second between them in the jump-off of the Greg Forino Flooring Championship qualifier. Aimee Garnett on Dan and Natalie de la Cour on Tommy both produced two clear rounds to provide stiff competition.
Tina’s Hair Studio senior novice qualifier was won by Sophie Barrell on How About Herbie, beating off the competition in the form of Roz Wilson on Amber, Tracey Smith on Seymour Savannah and Sam Dovey with Pudding.
Guillot rode another cracking round on Guinness in class 13 with Ellie Ferry and Beau also jumping a double clear to take second place.
It was certainly Natalie Moorat’s day as Irish Officer Dibble gave her an outright win with the only clear round in class 14, with Becky Rowe on Elly and Rachael Mauger on Gally each having a pole down and gaining four faults.
History seemed to repeat itself with Moorat again jumping clear in class 15, the Breyer Model Horse Senior Championship Qualifier. Lisa Patch on Midnight Stroller and Rowe with Elly both scored points towards the finals.
Competitors were so fired up they requested the organisers put on an additional class.
The jumps were raised to 3ft and it was here that Moorat and Irish Officer Dibble completed a hat-trick, producing a very fast time and again stealing first place from Patch and Rowe.
The next competition is on 15 October.
