CLUB 54 will no longer admit under- 21s. Manager Martin Rogan said the raising of the age limit, which came into effect last night, was part of a new beginning.
‘I conducted a survey of sorts and asked people to fill out a questionnaire,’ he said.
‘What came back was that Club 54 was the best laid-out nightclub in the island, but people were put off because it was full of youngsters.
‘We thought maybe it was time to start afresh and with a variety of music to cater for all tastes.
‘We are not trying to be derogatory or degrading to under-21s because we have all been at that age, but it’s just time to try something different.’
Mr Rogan, who also owns Milano Pizzeria and the new Claddagh Irish Pub, was confident about the new direction.
‘We have only just sorted out everything for Claddagh and people can’t believe it’s the same building because of the layout and content, but it’s now time to give a bit more attention to Club 54 again.
‘I’m trying to address the issues and if I get it them wrong, then time will tell.
‘When BarBados changed from the Monkey and went in a different direction, it left a void that we have edged in on for the past three years, but times change and if I listen to the people who go out, then this is the direction I should be going.’
Mr Rogan also confirmed the nightclub was due be renamed and refitted. However, he would not be drawn on a date.
‘I’ve made the mistake of naming a date in the past and then when nothing happens, everyone starts asking why not. It will happen, but not just yet because we have to go through the usual planning issues once more.’
