ZOE PARKINSON ended the national season fourth girl in England and 37th overall in the Optimist class. George Thompson, the island’s other top junior, finished 121st out of 264 sailors.
At the last event of the series - the Volvo Musto at Rutland Water - nearly 300 boats competed for honours and ranking.
On day one, the wind was westerly force five and gusting hard, with a fetch building up where the regatta fleet of younger sailors and the less experienced raced close to the shoreline.
The main fleet of 224 boats sailed near to the dam at the east end of the reservoir and again the conditions were choppy.
This favoured the more experienced and heavier sailors, including Thompson, who sailed his best races with a 34th position in the first and 44th in the second.
The others found the conditions hard going, with Parkinson being disappointed with a best 43rd on the day.
Sam van de Velde sailed very well in his first national event with two sixth places and a seventh in the 68-strong regatta fleet.
For day two, the wind had dropped and gone south.
This helped the lighter sailors and gave Parkinson, Abigail Tanguy and David Sidebottom better scores than the previous day, with Parkinson’s best of 18th in the main fleet and Sidebottom’s best position a fine third in the regatta.
Thompson was frustrated with his performance in the lighter winds, with a best of 48th.
Meanwhile, Ohanna Asplund showed real potential and put in a consistent performance on both days, her best being a 56th finish.
In the final series results, Parkinson was 69th, Thompson 106th, Tanguy 159th, Asplund 165th, Edward Parkinson 210th and regatta fleet sailors van de Velde ninth and Sidebottom 19th.
These results were a credit to all the Guernsey sailors and to the hard work of the coaches over the year.
