OCS helps in background

In the seventh of a series celebrating firms recognised at the Awards for Achievement, Tom Bradshaw reports on BWCI medium business nominee OCS OCS has been recognised for its support role in providing companies with services they need to flourish.

The offices of One Complete Solution are the focal point of a comprehensive range of services which allow businesses to concentrate on what they do best.

Managing director Mike de Laune said the strapline of the company - consider it done - summed up its ethos.

‘We take on the requirement from our client and free them from worry to concentrate on their own objectives,’ he said.

‘For the majority of the time, our role is to be the invisible cleaning fairies to carry out the work when the client or employees are off site and provide a professional and thorough service according to specification.’

From its humble origins in office cleaning, it has expanded to include windows, roofs and gutters, a full range of washroom and linen services and refuse collection.

A recent addition has been Quickcrates - a system of office storage and removals.

‘As a growing, ambitious company we are looking to expand our range of services further.’

In March 2005, a strategic rebranding was carried out to reflect the changes to the business. Formerly known as Swift Cleaning Services, it was renamed in line with parent company OCS.

‘Primarily this has offered a stronger corporate platform on which to build the business. The new branding has also offered a clean slate enabling the company’s reputation to flourish as we develop our services into new areas,’ said Mr de Laune.

It moved to premises in Bulwer Avenue in 2005, enabling a substantial expansion. Throughout 2006, developments took place to upgrade the working environment and improve efficiency and working conditions.

A strategic staffing plan was also achieved last year which revolutionised its working practices from a previous dependency on 100 part-timers to an appropriate combination of 145 full- and part-time staff.

‘This has positively impacted on our reliability and service to clients,’ said Mr de Laune.

OCS views looking after its staff as paramount to success.

An extensive training programme operates across all levels.

Developing community involvement has risen on the company’s priority list as growth and business expansion have settled.

‘This became particularly important throughout our rebrand as when changing to reflect the UK brand values, we did not want to lose our friendly, local reputation,’ said Mr de Laune.

‘Further integrating ourselves within the local community was one way of achieving this.’

Last year it was principal sponsor of the Guernsey Masters’ international swimming meet. It is currently fulfilling a five-year sponsorship deal of the annual Beau Sejour event.

It has also nominated the Macmillan Cancer Trust as its key charity.
