A HUSBAND and wife pair are running the London Marathon for the sixth time in a row. Karl and Caroline Butterfield are taking on the famous 26.2 mile course again to raise money for the Dreams Come True charity for children.
‘I keep saying this is my last one but then I just go back to it,’ said Mrs Butterfield, 46.
The pair have been training on Guernsey’s roads in the lead-up to Sunday’s event and expect to have logged 500 miles in training.
They also have a treadmill and exercise bike at home.
‘Everyone struggles with the training,’ said Mr Butterfield, 47.
‘The hardest thing this year has been the weather. While we can train at home, you can’t beat the road.’
Both are looking forward to the race, but expect to be a little nervous on the day.
‘There’s nerves before any event,’ he said.
‘Once you get there on the day, the butterflies float away. We know a few other people going over from Guernsey so we’ll be meeting up with them.’
Mr and Mrs Butterfield are expecting to raise more than £1,500 for their charity, which helps make the dreams of terminally or seriously ill children become a reality.
They also plan in October to trek across the Great Wall of China, covering 30-40km per day. Again the money will be donated to Dreams Come True.
The pair would like to see more Guernsey people getting involved in the race.
‘Anybody can do it,’ said Mrs Butterfield. ‘It’s just a matter of getting you running shoes on.’
