Knee ops for duo

NORTH and island striker Simon Tostevin is unlikely to play football again before next Christmas. He is to undergo a knee operation in the coming month to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate right-knee ligament he damaged during the Jeremie Cup Final against Jersey’s Trinity.

‘It’s pretty gutting. Physio Mike Thomas said it was likely I had done my cruciate so it’s not much of a surprise to have it confirmed.

‘Dr Ranjan Vadra looked at it today and he said straight away that I had done it,’ the player said.

‘I’m quite fortunate that I won’t miss the entire season and my aim is to get myself fully fit and back in Muratti contention for next year.’

Central defender Michael Wilson said he was devastated to be ruled out of Sunday’s Muratti.

The former Portsmouth junior player went to see a specialist yesterday morning to ascertain the extent of the left knee injury he sustained playing for the island against Cornwall recently.

‘I’m gutted. I have just got back from the specialist five minutes ago and he thinks I could have ruptured my cruciate. I’m now having to go away for an MRI scan in Jersey,’ said the 25-year-old fireman.

He will not know the seriousness of the injury until he gets the scan results, but could be on the sidelines resting for some time.

‘I’m not very happy but there is nothing you can do. You have to get on with life and get it fixed,’ said Wilson.

Only last Friday he said that his chances of making the clash against Jersey at Foote’s Lane was not looking good but he has now told coach Steve Ogier that he will definitely not be available for selection.

‘I’m gutted. I had just got back in the Guernsey fold and was enjoying it again and I came off as a precaution. I’m devastated but that is life,’ he said.
