MAY is proving to be a disappointing month as far as angling is concerned.
With half of it gone there have been no entries for the fish-of-the-month competition, an almost unprecedented situation for this time of the year.
Without doubt the recent bad weather has curtailed many planned trips afloat, but anglers who have got out have reported very mixed catches.
A number of big turbot have been caught, but overall the number of flatties seems to be down on recent years both as regards quantity and quality.
Some early mackerel have been reported, but catches are at best very patchy.
Inshore marks have yet to produce with any consistency and shore results are equally poor.
