ANDY PRIAULX will be burdened by 55kg success ballast in Pau at the next round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. The defending champion is equal on 31 points with leader Jorg Muller, who sits on top of the drivers’ standings by virtue of race wins, and both will carry the same handicap in France at the weekend.
Their extra weight is 10kg more than the next of the 14 drivers on ballast for Pau.
Priaulx moved up the standings after an excellent meeting in Valencia where he picked up a fifth and a third place finish.
James Thompson, the double-race winner from Spain in a ballast-free car, has been handed a 30kg handicap next time out.
‘I said after Zandvoort that I thought there was more to come from my car and I was right,’ said a happy Sarnian.
‘The RBM boys who run BMW Team UK really found that balance and grip for me at the Valencia circuit and my car was just fantastic - even with the huge 45kg ballast.
‘Being joint top on points was far more than I hoped for. I had a brief taste of a potential win but the championship is the important thing as far as I’m concerned so I’m very happy with my lot at Valencia and looking forward to the completely different Pau street circuit.’
