Oxford student Jeffrey makes it a worthwhile return trip

AMELIA JEFFREY and Tiffany Gervaise-Brazier were stars on the first day of the BSJA Guernsey Spring Show. In glorious sunshine at the club’s Chemin Le Roi showground on Saturday, 20 year-old Oxford Brookes student Jeffrey took two classes in the seniors while Gervaise-Brazier did the same in the juniors.

Riding her horse Loftsome Moonlight, Jeffrey took the Guernsey Large Open and the Senior Open 1.20m classes.

Jeffrey captained Guernsey at Jersey’s Liberation Day meeting said she was very pleased.

‘Moonlight is a brilliant jumper and she always tries very hard for me,’ she said.

‘She puts her all into it and she loves it. She jumped beautifully and she did some good tracks as well. She gets us out of trouble.’

Gervaise-Brazier took the honours in the last two classes of the day - the Junior Open 1m and then the Junior Open any grade, in which she defeated Penny Freeman.

The 13-year-old Grammar School student was riding Crystal Sword.

‘He jumped really well and I’m really pleased with the way it went.’

The senior classes took place on grass while all the juniors were on the new all weather surface of waxed sand and fibres.

‘The courses were really good and the track was really good to jump on as well,’ said Gervaise-Brazier.

Junior Katherine Gaudion also had a good day on her pony The Hale Viola. Gaudion has moved from nursery classes to the 1.20m classes this season.

She picked up the Abaty Sian Trophy and the Mrs M. Lemon Trophy for 128cms and under ponies.

Assistant show secretary Sarah Mills was delighted with the day’s programme, boosted by a dozen riders from Jersey.

‘It’s been a very good indeed,’ she said.

‘We had some very good jumping and there were some decent heights from our juniors and in the seniors as well. It was of a very good standard.

‘We had 15 clears in the biggest senior class so that was very good. The course builders have done a very good job as well today.’
