THE Guernsey Enterprise Agency has just missed out on being named the best small agency in the country. It was one of only two shortlisted in the category at the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies’ annual conference, held in Warwickshire.
About 200 directors and managers attended the three-day event, which represented 137 agencies across England.
Director Peter Walters said that the Guernsey operation had joined the NFEA in 2006 and this year decided to enter the best small enterprise agency category, for those with fewer than 15 employees and an annual turnover of less than £250,000.
‘Coming second puts Guernsey on the map,’ said Mr Walters. ‘The conference also allowed us to do plenty of networking with other agencies and to make good contacts. . . and who knows, one day we may get to host the conference.’
The winner was Erewash Partners, from Derbyshire, a not-for profit organisation, employing 14 and turning over £240,000.
NFEA chief executive George Derbyshire said he was delighted to have the Guernsey Enterprise Agency as a member.
‘They were a worthy finalist. We are very impressed with the range of services they provide.’
Mr Walters said the aim now was to emulate the winners.
‘We have four staff – they have 14. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get to their level at the moment.
‘We saw 300 clients last year and our job is to make those people as aware of risk and professional as possible.’
