Tight-lipped Sylvans

THE destiny of the Priaulx League championship seems as uncertain as Martyn de Garis’ future at Sylvans. After Saturday’s sun-baked triple-header, four sides, including the westerners, are locked together at the top of the table on 10 points.

Nobody at Sylvans is prepared to talk about the future of their first-team coach, who is believed to have resigned last week, stating that Saturday’s clash with Belgraves would be his last.

It is understood clear-the-air talks between coach and club are planned for tonight, 48 hours after Sylvans came within a couple of minutes of beating Bels.

Matt Warren gave Sylvans the lead midway through the second half and Scott Bradford levelled late on.

St Martin’s won a tight battle at St Andrew’s 2-1 while at Port Soif young Scott Bougourd was the toast of the Northerners, hitting a hat-trick on debut as the visitors walloped the home side 8-0.

Rovers had to play the majority of the match with only 10 men after defender Tom Rihoy was sent off for bringing down another North youngster, Matt Loaring.

North led by a solitary goal at the break but in the second period boosted their goal difference to plus 12 with seven strikes, including three for the 17-year-old first- year Youth One forward.

Bougourd lobbed the keeper for his first, was on hand to convert a rebound off the crossbar for his second and got the third also from close range late on.

‘Glyn [Dyer] set me up. He went to the byline, pulled it back and I slotted it in,’ said the player.

Bougourd played up front with Craig Young who, for once, did not score.
