New company finds your way

TAKING a road trip abroad could be more stress-free than ever before. A new local venture, satnavhire.net, was launched in the summer by Joe and Louise Waterman and it aims to make it cheaper and easier for holidaymakers or business travellers to find their way around the UK or on the Continent.

‘The idea came to us one day when we were planning a trip to the UK. We are always baffled over directions and get lost, but we couldn’t see the point of investing in a satellite navigation system when we go over to the UK only once or twice a year,’ said Mrs Waterman.

‘I would say most people would be interested in having one, but they’re very expensive.’

She said people could relate to the scene, puzzling over a road map and struggling to find a hotel or running late for a special family gathering.

With the new service, some of the relaxation could be put back into driving off-island, she added.

Four days’ hire of a satnav unit for the UK is £12, while the same period on the Continent would cost £14.

Plans for the business also include the hire of DVD players for back-seat passengers.

‘Take-up of the satnavs has been good and we’ve got quite a few out at the moment,’ said Mrs Waterman.

‘The market we are aiming for is people going on holiday but we have ended up with quite a few business people going on trips, which is good when we’re out of the holiday season.

‘A customer who used one to take a group of children to the middle of Paris said it was invaluable.

‘I suppose you don’t want to get lost with a group of impatient children in the back.’
