ELENA JOHNSON has enjoyed more success on the English circuit, this time in the Oxfordshire satellite event that she had previously won with Paul Le Tocq. The Sarnian progressed to the quarter-finals in the singles where she met the number-one seed and England number four, Becky Pantaney.
Johnson lost in three but underlined her recent upturn in form by taking a set off an experienced and quality opponent.
In the mixed doubles, Johnson partnered Matt Hanson from Staffordshire to some good wins on the way to the final where they were edged out by the regular pairing of Tom Armstrong and Catherine Grant.
Those results were followed up with more good news for Johnson, who has once again been selected to receive funding from the Talented Athlete Support Scheme, despite large cuts from it which now results in only two players from many of the major badminton-based universities receiving financial support.
