Savills One retain top spot after open break

LEADERS Savills One enjoyed a straight-sets victory as the OSA Recruitment Women’s League got back into full swing. In the first fixtures since the Guernsey Open, Alternative Solutions Ltd One were hoping to replicate their performance, but were without the experienced Lyn Jordan and Tanya Gibson.

Savills won the first set with relative ease thanks to a good run of service by Julie Elmy, but a series of silly errors let the score slip to finish at 25-12.

The second set saw ASL retaliate through a run of service from Dominique Lihou to bring them equal at 18-18, but Savills held on to take it 25-19.

Nikki Skillen and Lihou continue to be the strength of ASL, the latter justly deserved being player of the game.

However, Savills maintained their dominance into the third and closed it, with ASL only just reaching double figures.

NashCopy White started well against Alternative Solutions Two with consistent serving that proved too much for the less experienced side.

Whites were too strong at the net for their opponents and took the first set quite easily.

Whites then rested their injured captain, Karen Archenoul, for the remainder of the match, putting Lize-Mari Theron into the gap and bringing on Bea Chalita, but the new line-up did not look at ease in the second set.

ASL2 rallied well in the third with solid teamwork and excellent strength at the net from Jo Smeed.

Whites made far too many mistakes for their experience and could not produce anything from poor digs, which lost them the set.

After words from their coach, NashCopy came out in the fourth with much more determination, Marisa Robilliard and Lisa Dowinton working well together at the net.

That enabled Whites to take the game 3-1.

NashCopy Red had an easier time against NRGi, winning the game in three straight sets.

The NRGi girls worked hard under the guidance of Richard Skipper, but struggled to return the serves from the Reds.

Dominance at the net by Martine Bougourd and setter Kat Burgess helped Reds to retain control of the match.

Some sloppy play allowed NRGi to reach double figures in each set, which gave Gemma Nicolle the opportunity to rally NRGi with some brave chases.

However, the Reds never looked like losing a set.
