TWO students have received a boost for their final year of university studies. Sabrina Curry and Amelia Jeffery are the recipients of bursaries from the Praxis Group.
Both started their final year in September and had worked at the company during the summer.
Miss Curry is at the University of Manchester where she is studying accountancy and law.
Previously a pupil at the Grammar School, she is planning a career in accountancy in the island.
‘Working over the summer at Praxis has helped me to decide on accountancy. Unlike many other office holiday jobs, they offered me hands-on experience rather than just filing and photocopying. I got to learn practical skills that will help me towards my degree and I know they will support me through the next stage of training, the ACCA qualification.’
Miss Jeffery went to Blanchelande Girls’ College and is now studying towards a degree in communications, media and culture at Oxford Brookes University.
She has a clear idea of her career path with Praxis after graduation.
‘The group offers a lot of career options which allow juniors to progress quickly. I want to pass all my ACCA exams to become a certified accountant and then progress to become a successful manager,’ said Miss Jeffery.
As well as the financial contribution, Miss Curry and Miss Jeffery are guaranteed employment with Praxis on completion of their studies.
Rob Fearis, managing director of Praxis Fiduciaries Ltd and director responsible for human resources, said the pair had already proved themselves to be able, committed and enthusiastic members of the team.
‘We are delighted that they have accepted our offer of bursaries and, more importantly, future employment with us after they graduate.
‘Sabrina and Amelia will both receive encouragement and support throughout their ACCA studies but in the meantime I wish them all the best for their final year at university.’
