WHICH of the Bailiwick’s sports stars will get your vote? Islanders have until Monday to get their nominations in for the Garenne Group Sporting Achievement Awards.
Organised by the Guernsey Sports Commission, the annual awards evening will take place at Beau Sejour on Wednesday 30 January 2008.
Established to acknowledge those islanders who have achieved or exceeded their own sporting goals, 11 awards are based purely on nominations from the public and the sports clubs and associations.
‘If you can think of someone who deserves to be recognised for their sporting achievement then please take the time to nominate them for the relevant award,’ said Deputy Mike O’Hara, chairman of the GSC’s Sporting Achievement Awards Committee.
‘The Sporting Achievement Awards cover all the island’s sports and as well as acknowledging the elite sports men and women it is also an opportunity to reward those people who have really developed and progressed over the last year.
‘The sporting clubs and organisations have already put forward their nominations, but it’s now the public’s turn to tell us who they think deserves to be rewarded. Every nomination counts.’
Rugby star Austin Healey spoke at 2006 Sporting Achievement Awards. Details of the speaker for this year’s event will be released shortly.
Nomination forms and further details can be obtained from the GSC website www.guernseysports.com, from the GSC office at the Coach House, Beau Sejour or by contacting Graham Chester on 747273 or email graham.chester@gsysportscom.gov.gg.
