MONEY is flooding in to the John Murphy Family Fund. Efforts are being made across the island to raise money for the Fort Road accident victim who is making a satisfactory recovery in Salisbury District Hospital.
Lynne and Ian Greeno, who are close friends of Mr Murphy’s family, set up the appeal following requests from colleagues, businesses and the public.
Mr Greeno said there had been considerable interest in the fund.
‘We met up with Helena, one of John’s sisters, who flew over last night and joined our first committee meeting for the fund and she said John was in a good state of mind.
‘She said he was sitting up for the first time since the accident and even joking with the nurses.’
Mr Greeno said collection boxes would be placed at post offices and both Nsew stores.
Northern Trust held a special dress-down day yesterday in aid of the 22-year-old and the company has pledged to match the £1,000 that staff raised.
Mr Murphy worked for Northern Trust between July 2003 and April 2007 during his university holidays.
Staff at Guernsey Post, where Mr Murphy is now employed, have been going head-to-head to raise funds.
It is running its own version of hit television show The Apprentice in an attempt to raise money for brain injury victims through the sale of Guernsey Headway calendars.
For every one sold through the two-team challenge, which will finish at 1pm today, Guernsey Post will donate £1 to the John Murphy Family Fund.
Team Mr August has put a calendar signed by all the posties in it up for auction on eBay to see how much money it can raise for Headway.
For every £5 the calendar raises, the company will donate £1 to the Murphy appeal.
