ST MARTIN’S stormed back to joint top of the Priaulx League last night. An incredible start at Blanche Pierre Lane saw the hosts score all their goals in a 3-0 victory within the opening nine minutes against a shell-shocked North.
Jason Winch, Charlie Pinsard and a Chris Mauger penalty inflicted a third league defeat of the season on the champions.
On this form, Saints are going to be very hard to beat and look genuine title contenders. Although boss Colin Fallaize admitted that there was a long way to go, he added that he was ‘happy to be there’ at the summit.
‘I thought it was thoroughly deserved,’ Fallaize said.
‘We got out of the blocks well, we came out with a great deal of confidence and we never really let them into the game.
‘We maintained our shape and discipline and Nathan [Pattimore] did not really have a save to make until the last couple of minutes.
‘I’m very happy with the performance and it is good to have a clean sheet.’
With North’s injured central midfield partners Gavin Le Page and Alex Le Prevost having to watch from the sidelines, the latter on crutches, along with long-term absentee Simon Tostevin, Mick Le Prevost’s options were limited.
However, the chocolate-and-blues coach refused to use that as an excuse.
‘We have had to change things around a bit, but we have got players who are capable of doing the job. The boys know they did not perform tonight,’ he said.
‘They were very poor goals we gave away and after the first 10 minutes the game was basically over.
‘We tried to change things in the second half and we had a bit more to us, but overall we were poor and the best team won by a mile.
‘But I cannot really have a go at the lads because what we have done so far this season has been generally very good and we will be up there fighting for the title at the end of the season.’
