News from the Guernsey Press

‘We are overwhelmed’

FORT Road accident victim John Murphy is making a good recovery. Speaking on behalf of his family, Lynn Greeno, who set up the John Murphy Family Fund with husband Ian, said a letter from Moira, John’s mum, on Monday said they were ‘overwhelmed by all the local support’.

Mrs Greeno, a teacher at La Mare de Carteret Primary School, where Miss Murphy works, said: ‘John has made so much progress in one week and they are taking one day at a time.

‘The hospital has waived the normal visiting hours because John comes from overseas.

‘When he is strong enough he will move hospitals to operate on his pelvis,’ she said.

She said the family had gained strength from the many cards and good wishes sent.

The Greenos launched the fund in response to requests from friends, colleagues and the public.

So far it has reached more than £3,000, which will be made available to the Murphy family.

‘We have had a good demand for collection boxes from shops, pubs and businesses,’ said Mrs Greeno.

‘We have been notified of numerous fund-raising events that are being organised.’

She said Miss Murphy had wished her school choir the best of luck for its carol service next week and added that she wants them to smile and sing for her.

*Donations to the fund can be made at any NatWest branch in the Bailiwick. The sort code is 60-09-20 and the account number is 74175122.

Anyone who wants a collection box should email ijgreeno@cwgsy.net.
