Le Prevost promises an improved North showing

MICK LE PREVOST has said there will be a different performance by his North side tonight from the last time they faced St Martin’s. Saints caused something of a shock when they defeated the Priaulx champions 3-0 in the league last week.

All the goals came in the first 10 minutes.

And this evening at Northfield, the two sides meet in the semi-final of the Stranger Cup.

‘Against Saints we were very poor and it’s going to be a different scenario on Wednesday,’ said the North coach.

‘You get that in football and it’s now how we respond to it. St Martin’s was the worst performance that we’ve had since I’ve been in charge.

‘I think you’ll see a different response, attitude and determination. It will be a different game.

‘We had a meeting for an hour-and-a-half when we talked about the game. They have got to show how good they are as footballers and take it from there.

‘They are all up for it. They know they let themselves and the club down. Hopefully, they’ll perform better and get a result.’

And Le Prevost’s opposite number at St Martin’s Colin Fallaize is anticipating a different North tonight.

‘I would expect us to be going at them if I’d lost the last game,’ said the Saints boss.

‘They’ll be keen to try and get back on a winning note and to get to the cup final. That in itself is motivating.

‘Both teams will be missing players and that will even things out.’

The black-and-whites go into the match without their island attacker, Dom Heaume, who is away, and the suspended Chris Mauger.

Fallaize also said he had a couple of injury doubts, but he was keeping the details about those close to his chest.

‘I won’t tell because I want to keep Mick guessing,’ he said.

Le Prevost has to deal with a plethora of injuries.

Along with long-term casualties Simon Tostevin and AJ Saunders, Jon Loaring, Kyle Stone, Gavin Le Page and Alex Le Prevost are out.

But he does welcome defender Jacques Isabelle back into the fold. He has returned from university for a holiday.

‘I’ve got a few niggling injuries as well, but hopefully they’ll be all right for Wednesday,’ said Le Prevost.

‘Jacques Isabelle is back for Christmas and he’s a good player. He gets stuck in and that’s what we need at the moment - we need to get stuck in more.’

North have certainly got a tough week.

After this evening’s clash, in the league on Saturday they face Bels, who also beat them in the previous time the two met.

Bels are already through to the final of the Stranger after they crushed Rangers 10-2 in the other semi-final.

The scintillating form that they are in at the moment suggests that they are looking good for the league title.

‘That’s a big game and if we lose on Saturday it’s going to put them in the driving seat,’ said Le Prevost.

‘We’ve got two big games coming up and then Rangers on 29 December.

‘So we really want to win them if we want to be up there at the end of the season.’

* Tonight’s semi-final kicks off at 7.30.
