North exact revenge

REVENGE was sweet last night for North. A week after their 3-0 Priaulx League defeat at the hands of St Martin’s, the chocolate-and-blues swept into the final of the Stranger Cup with a convincing

4-1 win over the same opposition.

‘I’m pleased, particularly after last week,’ said North coach Mick Le Prevost.

‘They had a couple of players missing, but then look at the injury problems we have got.

‘We are in the final of the Stranger now, it’s a good cup to win and hopefully we might have a few players back for that match with Bels.’

The outstanding Matt Loaring scored North’s first two goals and Jamie Ferbrache added a third on the stroke of half-time.

Chris Le Noury pulled one back for Saints immediately after the break, but then they lost James Gavey, who came off worse in a 50-50 challenge and left Northfield in an ambulance, heading for an X-ray on his shin.

Ferbrache wrapped up the win for North on the hour-mark.

‘After the first five minutes, in which Saints started well, I thought モoh no, here we go againヤ,’ Le Prevost admitted.

‘But after 10 minutes we started to settle and to play some decent football, which is what we have talked about getting back to since last week.

‘We created three chances in the first half and scored three goals, which was pleasing because while we often create more than that, we don’t stick them all in the net.

‘The second half was very stop-start, but overall I’m pleased for the boys and although there are certain areas we need to work on, the improvement we have made is what’s important.’

Saints captain Kevin Graham wished North luck in the final.

‘It was the 20 minutes at the end of the first half which lost us the game,’ he said.

‘I thought we started tremendously well, perhaps better than last week, but we did not produce the goals. Then 20 minutes killed us.’
