CHAMPION Rupert Sewards renewed his assault on this season’s Rothschild Mixed Foil Championship when for the second time this season he won the monthly event and was awarded the top marks. He is at the best possible score of 200 for the two events he has attended.
In November, however, the closest imaginable margin and one hit separated him from second-placed Tom Miller who scored 99 but he could come only sixth overall after a low score in his first competition. His overall score is 192.
Meyrick Simmonds came third, although he is well off the reckoning in points on 192 and will need to excel to aspire to greater things.
Marcel de Garis was fourth with two wins and Adam Bonner fifth also on two wins but a worse hits indicator.
Rosie Milner won a single fight and as a result she and Bonner are relegated.
In league two, Tom Carey won the division with five straight victories to gain promotion to the top league, 14 years and eight months after his last visit to the top echelon of fencing in March 1993.
Second was Adam Knight on four wins and the next three were tied on two each. Jamie de Cartaret was third with a hits difference of plus one, with Harry Miller fourth with minus four and unlucky Nico Ozanne (minus seven) relegated along with Daisy Stevens.
Matthew Hale won division three, winning all his fights convincingly, and is promoted along with Rob Harnish who won three fights.
James Bodkin stays in the division, with Cristo Stuart and Carol Wood suffering demotion.
Pierre Ozanne won division four with Attila Stanitz coming a surprising second, though his fight with the winner was remarkably close. Andy Higgs was third and stays put. Thomas Dorey and Oliver Ferris were relegated.
In the fifth division, Matthew Ashworth was top with an impressive five wins and a 25-6 hits record.
Henry Wallis was second, followed by Gail Childs, Anna Miller, Wendy Batiste and Fraser Ward respectively.
