Awards judges settle on business shortlists

JUDGING has now taken place for the business section of the 2007 Guernsey Awards For Achievement in a record year for entries. Three companies have been shortlisted for the Healthspan Best Large Business, the BWCI Best Medium Business and for the NatWest Best Small Business awards.

A ‘best-of-the-best’ Commerce and Employment Business of the Year award will also be presented.

The event is being organised by CMA Event Management and chief executive Alex Bridle was delighted to have received so many.

‘The judges’ task of creating shortlists for each of the categories is always made particularly difficult given both the high standard of entrants and the diversity of the business sectors that they represent and this year is no exception,’ he said.

‘Once again it has been shown how important these awards are to the local business community and the high-esteem in which they are held.’

The judging panel comprised representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Guernsey Industry, the Institute of Directors and the Guernsey International Business Association.

A representative from Commerce and Employment chaired the panel.

The names of the shortlisted companies will not be disclosed until the evening itself on Thursday 7 February.

In addition to the business section, the Guiton Guernsey Ambassador Award, the Specsavers Award for Lifetime Achievement and the NP Group Silver Salver for the IoD-GTA University Centre Excellence in Training Award will also be presented.

A close friend and one-time housemate of Tony Blair, Baron Falconer of Thoroton is the keynote speaker at the event.

A former Lord Chancellor and the UK’s first Secretary of State for Justice, Lord Falconer had a special responsibility for the Channel Islands as privy counsellor.
