THE island’s first arrival of 2008 came just two hours into the new year and 10 days earlier than expected. And a second New Year’s Day baby arrived at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital 12 hours later.
Sarah Woodhead, 25, and Steve Gaudion, 30, had to put other celebrations on hold as they welcomed their first child, Kasey Mai, into the world yesterday morning.
Both mother and daughter are doing well and they are expected to go home either later today or tomorrow.
‘It’s quite special - it’s the best way to start off the year,’ said Ms Woodhead.
‘Quite a few people joked that we would have her on New Year’s Day and they were right in the end.
‘We had an inkling it was going to be early so we didn’t plan too much for the night.
‘Our family and friends are really happy.’
The couple had first arrived at the hospital at 3am on Monday, but were sent home a couple of times because things were not progressing as quickly as expected.
Mr Gaudion, who is a carpenter for CBR Development, said their home was fully prepared for Kasey Mai’s arrival.
‘We’ve got all the bits and pieces we need. Everything is in pink because we knew what we were having.’
Yesterday’s second new arrival was Julie and Paul Eaton’s son, Harry, who was born at 2.06pm.
He weighed in at 8lb.
