LAUREN HURFORD has successfully defended her John Smith island women’s singles championship at the Island Bowl. She won from Joanne Johnson and Danielle Le Couvey, the double-champion’s pin total over five games being 923 for an average of 184.6, followed by Johnson (178) and Le Couvey (174.8).
The men’s section saw Derek Tomlin take top spot, edging Paul Balshaw into second place ahead of last year’s champion Steve Cutler.
Over 10 games, Tomlin totalled 2,102 pins to achieve an average of 210.2, followed by Balshaw on 198 and Cutler with 192.4.
On the league front, Matt Southwell is still heading the Monday Open Singles League with Blake Osborne and Cutler sharing second place.
The high series was recorded by Hurford with 247/629, followed by Southwell (213/616) and Cutler (222/569).
The top-scoring Michelle Ward (240/630) now leads the Women’s Scratch Singles League from Le Couvey and Hurford, while other scores of note were recorded by Stephanie Hale (266/611) and Le Couvey (218/571).
The Monday Twilight League (four-game series) is headed by Cutler from Balshaw and Mick Prigent, scores of note being achieved by Cutler (255/887), Balshaw (237/856) and Mark Brehaut (212/787).
The Froggies still top the Mixed Doubles League from the Castaways and Hales Comet, the best scores here being by Ian Hale (233/614), Brian Roussel (238/608), Chantelle Hale (193/547) and Chris French (201/515).
The Open Doubles League is now headed by Barracudas from the Ravens, with the Wanabees and Starfish sharing third place.
Bob du Feu top-scored with 257/624, followed by Cutler (235/611) and the top women were Hurford (212/601) and Johnson (213/569).
The Far Queues now top the Sunday Trios League ahead of the Owls and erstwhile leaders Three Amigos, although the star of the night was the Linesmen’s youth bowler, Josh Harvey, who achieved a maximum game of 300 in his series of 662 to take top score of the night.
The YAC’s League is headed by John Gauvain from Sam Savident, with Blake Osborne and Ben Cotterill sharing third place.
