A SAVILLS derby was one of the well fought matches that kicked off the OSA Recruitment Men’s League. The second team took the first set after establishing a 10-point lead. Savills 1 rallied well to cut the deficit to two points, but their opponents held them off to win the set 25-23.
The second started with some strong hitting from new players Bero Bobus and Emmanuel Dhendere for Savills 1.
Points were shared until the back end of the set when the first team scored five unanswered points, taking it 25-21.
They then took control and won the third set with good play from James Bodkin and David Chapman.
They also edged the final set despite Savills 2 displaying controlled play and good hitting by Troy Bodie and Mike Amstad.
Savills 1 produced solid attacks together with impassable blocks to deny the seconds the chance to level the match.
Orchard PR’s second season got off to a good start.
Although they did not grasp that elusive win, they proved that it could be just around the corner.
There was great play all round and, with some fine serving by Matthew Hann and newcomer to the men’s division Chris Le Noury, Orchard were in contention for the second set.
Unfortunately they were pipped at the post, losing 25-23.
The third was just as closely contested, but the experience of the NashCopy squad proved too much to overcome and Orchard lost in straight sets.
