STEVE OGIER has been on a spying mission ahead of next weekend’s FA National League System Cup quarter-final. The Guernsey boss went to Oxford on Wednesday to watch opponents Amateur Football Combination, play Oxford University.
The league representative side won 3-2 and their next game is against the Guernsey side in the guise of the Priaulx League team at the Corbet Field a week today.
‘They are pretty much the same standard as us,’ said Ogier.
‘There were no surprises. They’ve got a couple of [good] lads up front.
‘Their number 10 was a good hold up player and the other striker had some pace about him. They were a hard working team but they had no outstanding players.’
The AFC claim to be the biggest adult football league in Europe with almost 100 clubs and 350 sides playing in and around London and the Home Counties.
In the last round they defeated the Sussex County League whereas the Priaulx beat the Gloucestershire County League 2-0.
Meanwhile, Ogier has not made any significant changes to the squad that won that match back in November.
The only players not involved are Ross Allen and Ollie McKenzie.
Rangers striker Allen is out through injury while wingback McKenzie has gone travelling.
The rules of the competition also disallow players who have held professional contracts.
This rules out from the side Neil Clegg and Kevin Graham.
The match kicks off at 2.30pm, next Saturday.
