ISLANDERS are split virtually 50:50 over moving to Central European Time. Of the 425 responses to a survey organised by Guernsey-based online marketing company Submarine, 199 were for the proposal, 203 against and 23 undecided.
‘In four years of survey provision we’ve never experienced a subject that so polarises people’s views,’ said Submarine director Neil Inder.
The survey was free and came on line at the beginning of last week.
The response came largely from people working 9am-5pm with access to email - most of them office workers with an age range of 25-55.
Online comments ranged from wanting to give the proposal a try and reverting to GMT if it proved unsuccessful and believing the whole idea is unworkable.
Some thought the move would create a positive separate identity for the island, while others labelled it simply idiotic.
Deputy Peter Roffey’s time-change requete will go before the States next month.
