THE weather led to a quiet end to 2007 for what had been a good year for Guernsey clay target shooting. The island shooters picked up one gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Island Games in Rhodes in the summer.
They also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships.
Membership to the club is also on the rise.
‘Despite the quiet close to the season, a review of 2007 clearly indicates that clay target shooting is going from strength to strength,’ said James Rouget.
‘The year has seen extremes of conditions which on occasion have hampered performances. Despite this and limited available range time, Bailiwick shooters have excelled in local and overseas competitions.’
December always tends to be a quiet month at the club’s Portinfer range due to sporting shoots held in Talbot Valley over two weekends.
And during the month, shooting was cancelled on three weekends as the conditions were considered hazardous.
Two trap disciplines were shot although turnout was poor for both the down the line and automatic ball trap events.
Richard Mansfield and Darren Burtenshaw took top honours in these events respectively.
