GUERNSEY Business School students have been commended as ‘amongst the best in the country’ by an external moderator. Four students have completed the BTec HNC business programme, which had been tailored to their specific needs to incorporate a substantial level of information technology.
The participants were Mathew Le Page, Ashley Nicholas, Garry Fusellier and Jonathan Lenfestey.
Course tutor Bryce Thomson said he was extremely proud of the students’ achievements.
‘The group was a diverse bunch and comprised two police officers, a person from the electricity board and an IT manager from a bank,’
he said.
‘Their intention was to get a base business knowledge and apply it within an IT setting to help them in their jobs.
‘This was the first time the College of Further Education
had combined business and IT in this way.
‘The external invigilator said the standard of work was exceptional and certainly amongst the best in the country, although we are quite used to that kind of praise as Guernsey students are very good.
‘One of the projects was even described as worthy of publication. I would like to congratulate both the students and the staff at the business school.’
BTec higher national certificates and diplomas are well known locally, nationally and internationally. The latter is a valid alternative to a foundation degree.
Having successfully completed the certificate programme, the students intend to take ‘top-up’ modules to upgrade to a full higher national diploma, usually available only to full-time students.
Mr Thomson said this was part
of an attempt to maximise access
to such programmes by flexible
delivery modes.
‘Following on from the success of this course the intention is to start an HNC in business and management in September,’ he said.
‘As a business school we consider ourselves to be at the core of Guernsey, but our wide range of courses reflects our commitment to bridging the gap between the finance industry and the world that exists outside of that.’
