FOREST Primary pupils travelled back 150 years yesterday as part of their history lessons.
The Year 5 students learnt what school life was like in the Victorian era.
Gone were computer games and pen and paper, replaced by marbles and slate. The school uniform was also exchanged for period clothing.
Teacher Claire Phillips dressed appropriately and head teacher Gary Le Huray wore an old-fashioned gown and read out a school inspection from the time.
‘We tried to make it as real as we possibly could,’ he said.
‘The children brought in bags of marbles. It was lovely to see the children enjoying and learning. It brings history home for them and makes it far more fun.’
The classroom was transformed with the white board and marker replaced by blackboard and chalk. Mr Le Huray said it was very stark, in complete contrast to how schools work in the 21st century.
