SPECSAVERS has just opened its 1,000th store. Dame Mary Perkins has returned from the Netherlands where she launched the latest shop in Roosendaal with her daughter, Julie.
The store serves more than 100,000 people and is led by optical partner Wouter Hendrinks and retail partner Ruud De Clercq.
Dame Mary said she was proud to celebrate the milestone.
‘It took us 19 years to open our first 500 stores and now, just four years later, we are celebrating the opening of our 1,000th.
‘It is an amazing achievement and a tribute to the hard work and commitment of everyone here in Guernsey, the UK and in all our international offices.’
Specsavers has 874 optical stores and 126 hearing ones in eight different countries.
The company was founded in Guernsey in 1984 and is now the largest privately owned optician in the world.
It remains a family-run business, with son John last year being made managing director.
Julie has been running the Dutch operation for the last five years and another daughter, Cathy, works in the Guernsey office.
