GAVIN LE PAGE could be out for the rest of the season. The combative North and island midfielder picked up a knee injury during the Priaulx champion’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Bels at the end of November.
And the 24-year-old aggravated it at the weekend after he returned to action in North’s 2-1 win at Sylvans.
He has suspected tendon and ligament damage in his right knee.
‘I made a bit of a mistake by trying to come back too early,’ said Le Page yesterday.
‘When I turned, it gave way on me. I saw the doctor this morning and he’s referred me to a surgeon.
‘I don’t know if I need an operation but it’s looking likely.’
Le Page had been training for the last five weeks and had got through a training game last Thursday.
North boss Mick Le Prevost then brought him on during the second half of their Priaulx game with Sylvans.
La Page lasted only 10 minutes before he had to hobble off.
He thinks that he will not feature again this season for North and will also miss the Muratti in May.
‘I’m gutted big time - I just want to play football,’ he said.
‘I’m definitely not going to rush it. I’ve learnt my lesson.
‘The league has run away from us. I’m looking forward to next season now.’
North have been ravaged with injuries this year, with stars such as Simon Tostevin, AJ Saunders and Alex Le Prevost all spending a prolonged period on the sidelines.
Captain Darren Martin is now out with a foot injury, but is expected to be back soon.
Also they lost Kyle Stone who has gone travelling and Ollie McKenzie had a lengthy suspension.
Subsequently, too many defeats have now seen their hopes of retaining their title dashed as they lie in third place and 11 points behind leaders Bels.
‘I’ve never known a season like this for injuries,’ said coach Le Prevost.
‘It’s unbelievable. It’s just one of those seasons.
‘There’s nothing we can do now.’
However, things are looking up for Le Prevost as Tostevin is now back in the mix and McKenzie’s suspension is over.
The coach’s son, Alex, is set to return at the end of next month.
