POSTAL workers were yesterday relieved to find out there will be no forced redundancies in Guernsey Post’s drive to make savings. Many at Envoy House said they had been reassured by management on Tuesday night that there would be no compulsory lay-offs.
But there were concerns that overtime could be cut as the utility plans to make £2m. savings over three years.
Posties believe that if this
materialises, it could cause resentment and problems for staff who had mortgages to repay. It still was clear, though, that job satisfaction remained high.
Guernsey Post is introducing a restructuring programme as it comes to terms with the regulator’s tariff capping and concerns about the future of the bulk mailing business, which contributes half its income.
