DAME Mary Perkins was named the Guiton Guernsey Ambassador of the Year for 2007 last night. Despite all the awards she has won in the past, and being made a Dame Commander in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June, Dame Mary said receiving the award was right up there.
‘It’s a wonderful feeling. I believe it’s judged by people who recognize what it is to be a good ambassador for Guernsey and that’s why I’m so happy.
‘It’s such a privilege to know that people think of me in that way.
‘I’ve been here for a long time. I wasn’t born here and I wasn’t educated here but I regard it as my home and I’m dedicated to the island,’ she said.
‘I would do anything for Guernsey. You always hear of sports people winning these sort of awards, so I’m very surprised.’
