TREASURY minister Lyndon Trott wants Deputy Chief Minister Stuart Falla to be the next man in the top job. And Housing minister Dave Jones has also come out in support of the Commerce and Employment minister, who has not yet confirmed whether he will be standing for another term in April’s election.
‘I believe Stuart should be the next chief minister and I believe that very strongly,’ said Deputy Trott at Saturday evening’s Any Questions? at Delisles Church Hall, Castel.
Deputy Jones said he was surprised at Deputy Trott’s admission, but agreed that Deputy Falla should remain in political life.
‘With the government business plan, Stuart Falla has done the impossible,’ said Deputy Jones. ‘He has pulled together a disparate bunch of 47 politicians and got tacit agreement on the framework to take the island forward.
‘And there is clearly a huge amount of support for him in the Castel.
‘If he does decide to step down, it will a great loss to the States.’
When Deputy Trott was asked whether he thought people would be surprised by his admission - and that they might think he wanted to be chief minister himself - he would only say: ‘People don’t understand me at all.’
Deputy Falla said yesterday: ‘I didn’t know I had elected Lyndon as my spokesman.
‘It’s my birthday on 23 March and I’ll decide then whether I’m going to stand or not.
‘It is not the right time to make a decision as yet.’
