MICK LE PREVOST says defending champions North gave the worst performance in all the time he has been manager as they were held to a goalless draw at Rovers on Saturday. ‘That was awful. It was a shambles,’ he said afterwards.
‘We’re a lot better than that. I don’t know what it was.
‘Maybe they [the players] came here thinking they were going to win. The first 15 minutes we were good, but after that we weren’t at the races.
‘I can accept two or three players having a bad game but I can’t think of anyone apart Polsy [Stuart Polson] who had a good game. We’ve got to improve.
‘That was the worst display since I’ve been in charge.’
The consensus at Port Soif was that bottom-placed Rovers were unlucky not to take all the points.
And they certainly looked as if they were going to do when they had a couple of chances late on.
Their front line at the end comprised two 16-year-olds in Robbie Le Corre and Alex Masterton.
The latter, who has just returned to the game after a lengthy spell away with a broken leg, was causing all kinds of problems for the North defence as the game wore on.
He had one diamond opportunity when he found himself in a one-on-one situation with North keeper Richard Davey, but his shot went badly off target.
He need not have worried too much about it, however, because the flag for off- side had gone up.
‘I’m very pleased. I thought we could have won it,’ said Rovers’ assistant coach Eamonn Gillease.
‘The results have been going against us and hopefully our luck will change now.
‘We’ve got the same squad for Priaulx and Jackson as we’ve not got enough senior players. We’re pushing the youth through ready for next season.’
