‘Title race over’ – Big Fal

ONLY Belgrave Wanderers themselves are unwilling to say the title is theirs.

Nearest rivals St Martin’s last night beat Rangers 1-0 at Blanche Pierre Lane to close the gap at the top of the table back to nine points, but Saints coach Colin Fallaize admitted that the deficit will not be made up.

‘Bels have got it in the bag. We are playing for a Wheway Cup place and that is still quite an incentive,’ he said after an utterly forgettable match.

‘We have close to a full squad back for the first time in weeks and that’s encouraging.

‘It will help us pick up whatever points we can in the league and we have got two semi-finals coming up, both against Jersey sides [Grouville in the Jeremie and Jersey Wanderers in the Collins], which is good because it gives us different scenarios to those we face on a regular basis over here.’

Chris Mauger’s 73rd-minute strike was the solitary goal against Rangers, whose coach Mac Gallienne described his team’s performance as ‘atrocious’, among other things.

At the Corbet Field, Vale Rec fought out a goalless draw with another side looking to finish in a Wheway Cup spot, Sylvans.
