SIMCO LTD staff were sent home this morning after the company announced its Guernsey factory will close at the end of this year.
In a statement, parent company SSL International plc confirmed the proposed closure of its manufacturing facility.
Jan Young, head of communication for SSL, said: ‘It was a shock for employees today and it’s regrettable. It’s not a reflection of their hard work during this period and they have been given the day off today to get their head around it. It’s back to work tomorrow.’ About 90 people left with white envelopes soon after 8am today.

I WAS VERY, VERY SHOCKED TODAY. ABOUT SIMCO AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW A LOT MORE INFOMATION IN WHAT THE HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO SIMCO-AS ME AND HALF OF MY MATES HAVE WORKED FOR SIMCO FOR ALMOST 14 YEARS.
I have been at ssl, for many years. Life is to short to get physical and out of control! then again, life is a series of, endless, relentless grinding dissapointments! money! no matter how much you have, or haven’t got. It always causes problems! yes greed! it plays a very big part in what us humans call life! people just take, and take! Maybe they deseve there bit of fortune and fame? But they don’t consider others! They are to high and mighty! Then as soon as they get what they want, they win! why? Top level of standards, is required everywhere in a job! i learnt about, GMP (good manufacturing practice) at ssl. i learnt that it’s all about mutual respect, and achieving goals! Making a go of something speacial, and having a level of quality, and professionalism! Time and effort has gone to waste! The standards have been lost, and the level of social interests have been laughed at! is it all for one,and one for all? The mind is a powerful thing to waste! Its crazy when it statrs with one brave person, and that brave persons’ mind! Time waits for no one!
