ANGRY customers of Beauty and the East contacted the Guernsey Press yesterday after news broke of its closure. Several said they had gift vouchers which were now useless.
Jessica Bisson, 32, was given £45 as a leaving present from her old job and had been planning to use the vouchers before her holiday.
‘It’s just a real shock,’ said the administrator.
‘I was only talking to my boyfriend about spending them a few days ago. They sent out Christmas cards with a 10% discount offer so I was waiting for the end of that offer before I used them as you couldn’t use both together.
‘I was really angry after reading it in the paper, partly because they were sentimental. My old company got together and gave them to me as a leaving gift as they knew I would really appreciate it.
‘I know it wasn’t a massive amount of money but it’s the principle. I cannot be alone. There must be hundreds of pounds of lost money out there.
‘Money was handed over for these vouchers yet no service or product has been used. I understand that people go out of business, but they must have known there were vouchers out there and it seems a little unfair to have no warning.’
Miss Bisson said it had been a shock for the staff. She was surprised by the closure as it was a popular venue.
Carla Whitwam was given £35-worth as a birthday present. She knew nothing about the closure until a friend called her yesterday as she is working in Jersey at the moment. ‘I am disgusted that they are not honouring the vouchers or offering a refund. When the voucher was purchased as a gift for my birthday in November, it stated on there that it was valid for a year. I was looking forward to using it before I go on holiday in March. If I had known it was closing down, I would have used it earlier. It’s disappointing that a nice gesture for my birthday cannot be used any more.
‘I think it’s very poor customer service and it seems that they don’t care. I think a full refund should be offered as they have the money and the voucher is now worthless.’
Customers with vouchers are being told to send in claims for them.
