RAM raider Roberts Davidov-Stass used a stolen car to smash into the North Side Fish and Chip Bar to steal the safe.
When he sped off with only three tyres on the car, he was double the drink-drive limit. He was stopped by police after a chase through roads in the north of the island.
The 30-year-old, who has been in prison for half of the nine months he has been in the island, was jailed for two-and-a-half years. When he is released he faces deportation to his native Latvia.
Davidov-Stass pleaded guilty to eight offences, including burglary, drink-driving, driving while suspended and possessing an offensive weapon.
