MORE Guernsey stores are to stop giving away carrier bags.
Following the announcement on Tuesday that all major food retailers were going to introduce a 5p charge, Quayside has decided to follow suit. d B&Q could also introduce the charge in line with similar moves across its UK stores.
‘It’s a good time to go,’ said Quayside managing director Russ Fossey. ‘There’s a lot of public opinion for it, as well as our own thoughts on it. We try to reduce plastic bag use all the time.’ Money raised would be given to charity, he added.
The store will introduce the charge on 6 May, at the same time as the supermarkets.
