ISLAND COACHWAYS is bringing new meaning to the term speed dating later this month.

Singletons will be able to meet potential partners on board a bus while it drives around the island in aid of charity Hope for Guernsey. Hope for a Date is the brainchild of bus company managing director Hannah Beacom.

She is taking part in this year’s London Marathon, with all the money raised going to the charity.  The coaches will take people on a 26.2-mile tour of the island – the classic marathon distance – with one of the buses specifically for couples or groups simply wanting to make new friends.

‘We received calls from people who were either married or in a relationship wanting to take part, but not dating,’ said Mrs Beacom.

‘In order to open the event up to more people, we thought it would be a good idea also to introduce a “speed chatting” bus, where islanders can widen their social circle or just have fun in aid of charity.’

‘It’s set to be a really enjoyable night.

‘It’s a bit of fun for all involved, but ultimately goes to help a really deserving cause.’

The speed-dating coach will carry 20 females and 20 males.

As with normal speed dating, the girls are seated, with the men moving on after a set time.

It will be the same for the speed-chatting coach, but with people swapping seats to make friends.

It takes place on Saturday 22 March starting from Picquet House at 7pm.

The tour will finish at 8.45pm when passengers will be dropped off at the Guernsey Yacht Club for refreshments.

Tickets cost £20, with £15 going to Hope for Guernsey.

This includes a basket meal of spring roll and chips.
