Police find blood in cellar’s bath

BLOOD has been detected in a bath in the cellar at Haut de la Garenne.

A sniffer dog was put into the first underground room yesterday morning and indicated two different spots in the bath. Tests for blood gave a positive result.

‘However, it must be stressed that although the presence of blood in the bath corroborates the allegations made by some victims, there could also be an innocent explanation,’ Jersey Police spokeswoman Louise Nibbs said yesterday. The blood will now be forwarded to a laboratory in the UK for further examination.

Work to gain entry into the second bricked-up cellar room by forensic specialists could begin today.

Police have confirmed that a team continues working over the weekend and, if the search of the first cellar room is completed, they will start trying to get inside the second chamber.

Police also confirmed that they could start making arrests in the case in the next two weeks.

So far, they have 20-25 suspects, 100 victims and 40 witnesses, according to Ms Nibbs.
