Vale Rec 2, North 4
MICK LE PREVOST has called for Matt Loaring to be picked for the senior island squad after he watched the 17-year-old score a first-half hat-trick in North’s win at Vale Rec on Saturday.

‘If I was Steve Ogier [the Guernsey coach] I would definitely have him in the island squad for the Muratti,’ said the North boss.

‘I don’t know if he’d start but I’d have him involved. He can score goals. Matt did well today.’

The match started with the curious sight of spectator John Rihoy Snr in his jeans running the line as the third official had failed to turn up.

The home side took the lead within the first five minutes when referee Ian Le Prevost judged Ollie McKenzie to have brought down Rec captain Mark Ramsden in the area and Malcolm Symons duly put away the penalty.

North hit back 10 minutes later after some great work by Simon Tostevin, who was under pressure to get his shot off and Craig Young was on hand to score the rebound off Rec keeper Jody Bisson’s save.

Now it was all North and they added a second to their tally with the best move of the match.

After some patient build-up in the middle of the park, Alex Le Prevost found Loaring tearing down the right flank with a deep pass and the winger had no problems putting the ball past Bisson.

Loaring proceeded to wrap up his hat-trick in the next 10 minutes.

His second was a stunner when he danced past a couple of defenders to bang the ball into the back of the net and the third was a well-taken volley.

‘Pretty pleased – it’s my first hat-trick in the Priaulx and I’m delighted with the result,’ said Loaring.

The Grammar School student has been at trials at Hull and has recently returned from a week with Leeds.

Nothing has resulted from the two but he says he is going to keep trying to break into professional football and that Leicester might be interested.

‘I’m just going to keep trying,’ he said.

‘I’ve got the under-18 Muratti coming up as well so I’m going to try my best for that as well.’

In the second half, having played so well in the first, North lost their shape and went off the boil.

The ever hard-working Rec got themselves back into the game but just could not seriously threaten their opponents’ goal.

With the clock ticking down, their young left back, Marcus Piercey, had to be taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated knee after he took a sharp turn.

He had injured his knee in the past.

After the lengthy break, Rec hit North while they were napping when their striker, Lee Ogier, who is getting better and better every week, scored with a breakaway goal, much to the dismay of Mick Le Prevost.

The final whistle went soon afterwards.

‘Twenty minutes lost the game for us and young Loaring took over,’ said Rec boss Johnny Reid.

‘He waltzed through us. We looked like a bad side and all the performances we put in over the last weeks have gone out of the window.

‘We won the second half 1-0, but it was too late.’
