LEE MERRIEN is feeling confident ahead of the weekend’s cross-country world trials in Nottingham.
Guernsey’s best middle-distance runner is aiming for a place in the nine-man Great Britain team for the world championships in Edinburgh at the end of month. To more or less secure his spot, he needs to finish in the top nine at the trials.
‘I know I will be there or thereabouts,’ he said. ‘It’s going to be pretty competitive. There are three or four “certains”, but there’s probably 10 or so other people who could push for the remaining places. I’d like to think I’m one of them but you’ve got to do it on the day. From my point of view I can only do my best.’
